I started using a lathe in 2017 and wanted to see both how out of hand my hobby had gotten, and how the turnings have progressed over the years. So I cataloged all of the items we still have in the house. The plan is to keep the list updated with the newer creations.
When I start a turning, I have a basic idea of what I want it to look like in the end. But the wood actually decides what it wants to look like, either by how the piece of wood is shaped, or what’s underneath the surface. Regardless of what the wood decides, though, my input will have some bearing on what the final result will be.
No wood is perfect, but I’ve learned that trying to remove or cover the defects and blemishes is not a good idea. I believe those defects and blemishes enhance the finished product, and makes it truly unique.
The other reason for this website is to find homes for these turnings, which in turn gives me more room for the next batch!
If you see one that you like and it’s marked [available], let me know and we’ll see how we can get it to you. If you see one that you really like, but it’s marked [not available], I might be able to make a close copy for you.
